I’ve been a member of a co-op almost everywhere I’ve lived. As I became more interested in alternative healing, I started paying much more attention to my diet. Although I already ate pretty healthy, I became aware of how what I put into my body affects me.

1) Why did you join KCFC?

Joshua:  For us it’s a learning process in our faith-journey, some of it is deconstructing racism, materialism, consumerism, and making connections. Part of building a community is becoming reintegrated with creation and the rhythms of creation: learning basic stuff about where our food comes from.

Getting to Know the New Directors

Early in June, we announced the nominations of five candidates seeking open positions on KCFC’s board of directors. Danilo Ghiotto, Colleen Watts, Reed Davaz McGowan, Nicole Haines, and Gail Szczesniak all offered short introductions of themselves by answering through brief Q&As. 

By the end of the month, the election results were in: KCFC members had voted all five nominees to the Board! We want to send out a big thank-you to these five individuals for stepping forward, and another thank-you to outgoing Board member John Kolodziey for all his service.

1) Why did you join KCFC?

We joined KCFC because we care greatly about eating healthy, real food. We also care greatly about our community. In order to be able to healthily sustain as a family, we see the benefits of joining with our local community to bring the best possible foods to our neighborhood at affordable prices.

An Update on the Search Committee

From the moment we began planning to establish a co-op grocery store in Kensington, we’ve relied on the experience and talent of our members. For our next monumental task—identifying a commercial real estate property for our future store—we’re once again turning to the professionals in our own ranks.

PACA Conference a Success

On June 13th, Drexel University along with the Philadelphia Area Cooperative Alliance hosted a one-day academic conference, analyzing Philadelphia's co-ops in comparison with co-ops in Madison, WI.  KCFC was one of the case studies.

Co-Op Night at The Pickled Heron

Oh what a night! Our first fundraiser was a success thanks to the generosity of Daniella D'Ambrosio & Todd Braley owners and head chefs of The Pickled Heron, the new contemporary French bistro at 2218 Frankford Ave.
