Mayor Kenney reaffirmed his commitment to Philadelphia’s sustainability plans by announcing a series of public engagement opportunities designed to solicit input from stakeholders on the next version of Greenworks, the City’s sustainability framework.

The new Greenworks will build upon the success of the first program, launched in 2009. That 8-year plan had five areas of focus, with 15 measurable targets, such as improving food access, increasing recycling, and reducing energy consumption. The success of Greenworks has helped to make Philadelphia a healthier, more vibrant and more equitable place for all residents. The public engagement opportunities announced by Mayor Kenney are the first step toward developing the next 8-year plan.

“Philadelphia’s sustainability plan is a critical part of our work to ensure that residents in every neighborhood have equal opportunity to thrive. It is more imperative than ever to protect the most vulnerable among us from the impacts of climate change, such as flooding and extreme heat,” said Mayor Jim Kenney. “Greenworks helps us to improve community quality that benefits our residents, our economy and our environment.”
