So What Was the Big News?

In early October we gathered for our Fall Membership meeting. In the weeks leading up to it, we teased members by saying we had Big News that we'd wait to share at the meeting. So what was it?

We've received a $25,000 grant for KCFC from The Reinvestment Fund! The grant award will help cover critical expenses of establishing a grocery store, including a market study.

So after Peter Frank delivered that big news and we took a moment to celebrate, we heard from various directors on new developments.

  • KCFC President Lena Helen announced that we've re-established a Membership Committee, which will keep our recruitment efforts going and coordinate membership services.
  • New Membership Committee chair Danilo Ghiotto introduced our new Eat & Greet campaign and explained how its motto says it all. "It's Up to You, Recruit Two," so why don't we all build on the momentum our founding members have created and lend a hand with recruitment? KCFC Fundraising Coordinator Amaryllis Rivera went over the basics of Eat & Greets and stressed how easy they are to host and help plan.

  • Another new board member and the chair of the Grocery Operations team, Gail Szczesniak, explained that the Buyer's Club is taking a hiatus to take care of renovations and a restructuring process.
  • Brian Baughan of the Media & Marketing committee gave a sneak peak of the revamped KCFC website (the same website you're experiencing now).

We spent the final hour of the meeting in break-out groups, brainstorming new ideas on how we can keep improving our messaging and recruitment with Eat & Greets, the Shop Local campaign, the benefits of KCFC membership, and general member outreach. It's a good thing there were people taking notes, because the creative juices were definitely flowing that night!

Membership meetings are great ways to get involved and help recruit the members we need to make our store a reality. Please contact Danilo Ghiotto about helping with December's membership meeting.
