What's to Love About Food Co-ops?

Every now and then, it's good to step back and see the Big Picture on co-ops.

We want to share an educational and exciting video that makes a compelling case on why we need food co-op stores like the one we're planning here in the Kensington area. This comes from an impact study commissioned by the National Cooperative Grocers Association (NCGA)

So to recap, food co-ops . . .

  • Work with their community to buy and sell healthy local products, which stimulates the local economy and provides sustainable food and products to the community that matters most--yours!
  • Are owned and run by member-shoppers like you and me, which is why co-ops care about their employees, largely providing employee benefits and fair wages.
  • Recycle a huge amount of their waste including cardboard and plastics. They even compost organic materials.

Won't it be great when our co-op delivers all these benefits to our community and the economy? Did you know we have our eyes on a store site and negotiations have begun? We're at a very exciting juncture in this project!
