Who Are These People And Why Are They Perusing Our Building?

That's the MAKE team, the local architecture firm we've hired! We're even closer to a grocery co-op in Kensington!

A Message from the KCFC Board of Directors

We are thrilled to announce a huge step toward opening our storefront: KCFC has officially signed a contract with MAKE!

MAKE. LLC is a full-service architecture, design, and planning firm based in Philadelphia, PA. Founded in 2013, their studio serves non-profits, religious clients, and institutional organizations. Both David Quadrini and Brian Szymanik have designed, managed, and overseen construction projects at scales large and small. From renovations of 300,000 square foot secondary education buildings to the design of the new Hamilton Family Children’s Zoo at the Philadelphia Zoo, to the crafting of fine pieces of furniture, the partners at MAKE bring a combined 25 years of experience in architecture, planning, fabrication, and research to the table for each project the firm takes on.

The MAKE folks checking out the site.

In short, they are well-versed in assisting non-profits, landlords, and tenants to assess their existing infrastructure and strategize improvements that will continue to build on the mission of their organizations by making wise and conservative investments in their futures. Oh, and they also designed Weavers Way Co-op's Chestnut Hill store!

For several years, MAKE has helped KCFC evaluate our site’s suitability, consider the feasibility of various design options, and obtain a preliminary estimate of construction costs for this project. We are enthusiastic to continue this productive relationship with these fine architects!

And in other news this week. . .

So, now we're feeling a little festive. . .

First Friday, February 5, 6-9pm
Get Artsy with KCFC at The Art Dept.

To celebrate The Art Dept's newest show, RE:MARK, KCFC House MixMaster Oren will be shaking up a custom KCFC cocktail. Complimentary snacks, too. Join us anytime from 6-9pm to check it out, but remember food/drink are first come, first serve! More info on the show is available on the event's Facebook page. Share and invite! The Art Dept, 1638 E Berks St.

. . .but we're also sad because we're saying goodbye to Angie Rohacek.

We regretfully announce that Board member Angie Rohacek has resigned. She has done a fantastic job serving on our board for four years, sheparding the Shop Local program and always being the source of positive chi. We will miss her at our meetings, but she is still working on the Shop Local program and volunteering with the Co-op.

According to our bylaws, the board may appoint someone to fill Angie's seat until June's election. Interested in joining us? We are currently interviewing candidates with the talents and skills to push this project forward. Email Holly@kcfc.coop if you're interested.

We will keep you posted.
